Trump denies telling Don McGahn to fire Mueller ‘even though I had the legal right to do so’

President Donald Trump on Thursday denied that he had asked former White House counsel Don McGahn to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, a finding detailed in Mueller’s report on Russian election interference and possible obstruction of justice by Trump.

“I never told then White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire Robert Mueller, even though I had the legal right to do so,” Trump said in a new series of tweets, claiming that reports that he had were “incorrectly” published by “the Fake News Media.”

The president added: “If I wanted to fire Mueller, I didn’t need McGahn to do it, I could have done it myself.”
