US wireless carrier Verizon will soon stop selling phones unlocked, meaning customers won’t be able to swap SIM cards and use their phone on different carriers either in the US or internationally.

According to ZDNet sister site CNET, Verizon will phase in its new SIM lockdown on phones it sells this year.

It will initially unlock phones as soon as a customer signs up and activates one of its services. However, in the spring it will keep the phone locked for an unspecified period after purchase.
