FTC finalizes rule protecting governments, businesses from AI impersonation scams

The Federal Trade Commission is taking action against the use of artificial intelligence in impersonation fraud schemes, and has finalized a rule against impersonating a government or business.

The commission finalized the rule on Thursday, and it provides the FTC with stronger tools to combat impersonation scams. The new rule enables the FTC to directly file federal court cases in an attempt to force scammers to return the money they made in an scam involving the impersonation of a business or government, a news release said.
