GSA, OMB announce plans to create central shared services governing bodies

The General Services Administration and Office of Management and Budget announced last week their plan to implement a governmentwide shared services management and oversight operating model.

The plan includes a Shared Services Governance Board led by OMB that will make decisions for the entire shared services community. Further, GSA will create a Unified Shared Services Management office within its Office of Governmentwide Policy as a means to interface with shared services users, providers and functions.

Since 2014, the federal government has worked to institute shared services, the model by which large, disparate organizations use the same internal operations to efficiently use resources. This new management and oversight model will initially focus on acquisitions, financial management, human resources, travel and information technology.
