Big data earns praise, caution from federal IT officials

Big data will be the most critical component to moving their agencies forward, said three federal IT officials June 17 at the Brocade Federal Forum in Washington, D.C.

The Transportation Department has a “huge appetite” for data, said DOT Chief Technology Officer Maria Roat. Additionally, the Health and Human Services Department is working to merge clinical, genomic and other data for its precision medicine initiative, noted Frank Baitman, HHS chief information officer.
